DESCRIPTION:Explore Ecstatic Dance Session – Thurs. June 2 from 6:30-7:30 pm \nTHEME: The Art of Improvisation: tuning in\, uncovering patterns\, and expanding the potential of movement in the moment \nFacilitated by Twyla Kowalenko \nWhether you’ve been practicing ecstatic dance for years or don’t even know what the term means\, this session is open to YOU! \nIn this all-level workshop\, we will be exploring movement improvisation by practicing tuning into the moment and our bodies and following impulses internally and externally. We will explore our own movement patterns and tendencies as well as expand our potential range of motion by playing with movement qualities and space. The Laban-inspired workshop will offer everyone more entry points into the practice of conscious dance. \nTwyla Kowalenko has been facilitating improvisation-based dance in Toronto for the past 7 years and\, as a social worker\, has been facilitating groups for almost 2 decades. Back by special demand after a wonderful May Deep Waves collaboration\, are special guest musicians OLIVER JOHNSON (guitar) and ZACH SUKOWEH (percussion\, vocals)\, and guest co-facilitator SOASIS ABRAHAMSE (certified 5Rhythms teacher recently relocated back to Toronto after over a decade teaching in BC)! \nDanced by tens of thousands worldwide\, 5Rhythms is a dynamic freestyle movement practice rooted in the principle that if you put the psyche in motion it will heal itself. Dancing Wave upon Wave of the 5Rhythms\, we practice the art of being fully alive in the present moment\, to all that moves through us. Come dive into your own deep dance\, with a tribe of other dancing seekers of the sacred.
