#COVID19 update

March 19, 2020

Dear Friends,

On March 17, the provincial government announced a state of emergency and it is legislated that all public gathering spaces must close to flatten the curve of the spread of this virus. Dovercourt House management also made the decision to close the building.

The Move, as a public, in-person event, remains closed.

We are moving our events, as much as possible, online, starting with this Friday, March 20. See our Events page or our Facebook page for more information!

These are unprecedented times, friends. Find ways to connect with and care for one another on the phone and online through this period of social distancing. Stay tuned for Friday night check-ins and posted playlists from our DJs. ❤️ We are still here for you. Our dance practices are needed more now than ever.

We will still be accessible via email and on Facebook. Feel free to reach out to us via email or Facebook Messenger, and stay informed via Facebook and our website.

Want better quality sound?
Follow these steps:

Music sent over Zoom sounds terrible on some devices. For better quality sound, use MixCloud for sound, but follow ALL the instructions below. You have to turn off the Zoom sound, so you don't get doubled sound.

HOW TO JOIN THE ONLINE EVENT

Do you like dancing to music, not silence?
Music for tonight's dance must be streamed by you, over MixCloud.
Follow these steps:

1. Open the set in MixCloud using the links below.
MIXCLOUD: WARM-UP SET
MIXCLOUD: MAIN SET

2. Connect to Zoom as you usually would:

ZOOM LINK

3. When the DJ says so, start playing the mix (don't worry, he or she will cue you).
People using a device such a cell phone MAY EXPERIENCE POOR VOLUME unless they disconnect from Zoom audio. Learn how to do so here.

Our online code of conduct is similar to that in our in-person event. Dancing is encouraged. Watching for short periods is okay. Copying other people’s awesome moves is encouraged. We are silent through the dance, so the chat function will be turned off during the set. Participants are invited to communicate using the chat function during the warmup.

Please note: We are aware of the security concerns with using the Zoom app and will do our best to prevent disruption.
  1. Open the set in MixCloud using the links below.
    Warm-up:
  2. Connect to Zoom as you usually would.
  3. When the DJ says so, start playing the mix (don't worry, he or she will cue you).
  4. Once you start the mix, you have to turn off the audio from Zoom, so that you don't hear sound from two sources. Here's how:

Computer Instructions

  1. Move your mouse so the toolbar appears at the bottom.
  2. Next to the picture of the microphone (Unmute) on the lower left, there is an arrow pointing up.  ^ Click it.
  3. Click the second-last option, that says, "Leave Computer Audio". That's it. No doubled sound!

Later, when you want to hear the DJ at the closing circle, do the following.

  1. Move your mouse so the toolbar appears at the bottom.
  2. On the lower left, click on the headphone icon with a green arrow that says, "Join Audio".
  3. Click on Join with Computer Audio, or whatever option works for you there.

Cell Phone instructions

On a cell phone the sound is much worse, so using the MixCloud link really makes sense. Have it ready to go. When the DJ says so, click play. Then, switch back to the Zoom app (instructions at the end if you don't know how to do this.) Then:

  1. Tap your cellphone screen.
  2. Tap the three dots in the righthand corner.
  3. Tap on disconnect audio.
  4. (Also make sure you mic is muted.)

When the music is done and you want to hear the DJ again:

  1. Tap your phone's screen.
  2. Tap on Join Audio (lower left).
  3. Tap on Call via Device Audio.

“The Move is one of the highlights of my week. There I experience a freedom to express what’s inside, to play, to experiment, to create, to listen to life. I find it refreshing and grounding to just be me with a diverse group of people who are moving and interacting with acceptance and vitality. I encourage you to check it out.” Henry Wai, Trainer & Coach
